This is amazing, I used to play this when was a kid and this just blew my mind! Some tracks had powerup bricks that were unreachable due to being positioned too high up.
Just played through version 0.0.2. I am quite impressed!
Here are all the areas for improvement / differences from original that I noticed
1. Different terrain should cause the car to have different speeds. For example, in the Desert Adventure Dragway, the sand should make the car significantly slower.
2. The secret shield path in Magma Moon Marathon should flash when you activate your shield and make a static-y noise, this is how you know it's possible to go through it with your car, platform 9 3/4 style
3. The bricks are way too high up in Dark Forest Dash, you cannot reach half of them!
4. The green boosts are waaaay too fast right now. It should be a gradual acceleration into the boost and then a deceleration at the end. The boost also lasts way too long compared to the original
5. Green boosts should let you fly off ramps. For example, the last ramp down in Imperial Grand Prix, you should be able to basically fly off that with a regular green boost, rather than have the car hug the ramp.
6. You need to implement the power sliding! Otherwise you cannot do tight turns on the map. In the original, this was typically mapped to space bar, while powerups were the Enter key.
7. I think the ratio of the car size to map size is slightly off - I can't tell if too big or too small.
8. Need to implement the afterburner animation for the green boosts, and make the fly boost actually make the car fly. Many of the other powerups are incomplete / ineffective right now.
9. There are areas in the maps where you can fall off into oblivion.
10. The pillar should fall over in Desert Adventure Dragway, once the first place car reaches end of lap 2. There's other stage animations / interactions that should be implemented!
I really like the new style of the shields in your version! I think that's an improvement over the original! I also think the AI is pretty good, it feels a lot like the original, but there are definitely some glitches if you throw the characters off path.
Another suggestion I have, since you are remaking it, is if you can upgrade the textures to higher definition textures. Also, maybe some of the blocky edges of the map could be smoothed out in this remake. I loved the idea someone had on YouTube about making the other characters cars playable.
One huge wishlist item for me is to add shortcuts to Knight-mare-athon and the Pirate Skull Pass race tracks. The original game did not have them, but I think there are areas of those maps where they meant to place some shortcuts!
It would also be really cool to see some new tracks / bosses from other retro themes like Lego Aquazone, Lego Timecruisers, Lego Ninja, or Lego Space Roboforce. That would satisfy the remaster itch I've had!
When clicking the launcher I get "To run this application, you must install .NET Core". Any ideas what version I need to install and any other steps I need to get the launcher to run?? I really wanna test this!
I played the original all the time. You could make a banger out of this, but there still much more work to you i wish you then best of luck to make the best out of this!

the physics are a bit wonky, but the fact you made this from scratch mostly is super impressive. Great job!
